Pats @ Jets open thread: Week 16

The only thing wrapped up under the Patriots tree yesterday was a very nice playoff berth. They can't advance in the seedings or improve their lot otherwise, but they can build momentum and send shivers down the spines of potential opponents.

That can continue tonight with a sound drubbing of the New York Jets at the alcohol-free New Jersey Meadowlands. Fireman Ed is going to be sober, but no more sane.

Let him hear you Patriot Nation!

GO PATRIOTS!

(Post your comments here throughout the game. Let's get some good discussion going.)

Wow, Madden said something really intelligent, talking about the defensive injuries, etc. It's early in the game though. Let's see if he can focus for 3 hours.

By the way, nice start on defense.

Nice work so far on the first offensive drive. All running plays, including QB sneak on 4th-n-1.

Pats put together a nice opening drive there to start the game. Gil and Gino are way ahead of the tv. Still better than listening to Madden and Michaels.

That was really the best opening drive I've seen by any team this season, even better than last week. No incomplete passes, only one run that may have been stopped short. Great distribution of the ball. Very, very nice.

This will be overturned.

Nice call Hochuli.

Well, that was no good. I don't really care whether it was Ty Law or not. But it does seem more likely that he'd know Brady's tendencies. Too bad they wasted a chance following a turnover, especially after using a challenge.

Momentum, momentum, momentum.

Damn. Hope Samuel is ok. Now is not the time to start losing guys in the d-backfield again.

Law read that play perfectly. Looks like he'll keep the ball. You have to wonder what goes through his head when he looks over to the other sideline these days...

At Mon Dec 26, 09:52:00 PM, Blogger Tom Masse said...

Law did read that perfectly. Kinda reminded me of Super Bowl XXXVI against the Rams.

Injuries are what you want to avoid these last two weeks. But you want these guys to be playing live ball too. It's a risk you have to take.

Now Bruschi. Jeez. I hope all these guys are just heading to the locker room for precautionary measures...

22 rushing plays against 9 passes ... that's Belichick forcing an issue.

Two TD receptions by Vrabel. Six career receptions, six TDs. Unbelievable.

The Pats are starting to show their mettle. The Jets realistically cannot hang with these guys. Thats 2 for Vrabel. Nice.

Gino reports Bruschi is out of the game with some kind of leg injury and is heading for x-rays. Please let him be ok...

Keep us posted if you hear anything, mr. bandw. I just have Madden and Michaels, and you know the Pats aren't going to tell them anything.

At Mon Dec 26, 10:17:00 PM, Blogger Tom Masse said...

How about Vrabel as an early call for horsetrailer player of the game?

51 yards so far for Dillon.

I guess Ty Law is done for the night. He's got his INT so he's set. Hows 3-11 treating you Ty? Feel like coming back next year?

One more score in the 3rd and I think we can start putting in the backups. 37 Yards of offense for The Jets. I notice Belichick's sportin' the grey hoodie tonight. Heh.

At Mon Dec 26, 10:35:00 PM, Blogger Tom Masse said...

You stole my thunder, mrbandw. The Jets have 38 yards of offense in the half. 21 rushing, 17 passing. How do you like that Pats defense now?

And now the Pats have the ball again to close out the half. I agree. One more score and sit the starters for a while.

I'm putting up with obnoxious Gresh (sp?) and Tanguay to hopefully hear about the injury report.

By the way, MNF is back next year on ESPN. Why are they making such a big deal of this?? Oh. Sandra Bullock shot. That made it worth it for me :)

Ok. I guess Samuel just had the wind knocked out of him. He will be ok but won't be back tonight. No report on Bruschi, just speculation from the blabber-mouths. Not good to see him remove his shoe and get carted off tho.... Come on Football Gods, let him be ok!

At Mon Dec 26, 11:08:00 PM, Blogger Tom Masse said...

Yep. Time to start taking out the starters. Even in retrospect, you couldn't have played this game in anticipation of the injuries. That's just part of football, and we'll have to hope for the best.

Most of these stats are beyond reasonable. Time of possession is ridiculous. The Jets haven't gotten the ball since before the half, so they STILL have 38 yards and no first downs.

At Mon Dec 26, 11:12:00 PM, Blogger Tom Masse said...

The Jets first first down comes on a BS penalty call. That rule has to be looked at, because it's impossible for Seymour to sack anyone otherwise.

And I'm sick of that stupid whistling thing at the Meadowlands.

At Mon Dec 26, 11:15:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ok. Taking off on a tandem, if the Pats win next week, along with a K.C. victory, the Pats move up to the 3rd seed. I'm actually going to root for Cincy to beat K.C, since I think it's better for the Pats to stay in the 4th spot. Comments?

At Mon Dec 26, 11:25:00 PM, Blogger Tom Masse said...

I don't think it matters that much, since they'll be at home either way. But, should the Pats win, they'll still be the third seed going into the divisional playoffs, meaning they'll go to Denver instead of Indy. I think I want to hear the status on Bruschi before deciding. Nice question, mrbandw.

At Mon Dec 26, 11:26:00 PM, Blogger Tom Masse said...

I hope L.Coles keeps dancing, and then looks at the scoreboard, and then looks at the Jets record, and then sits down and shuts up.

Any chance of seeing a replay in this game?

At Mon Dec 26, 11:38:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I can't believe they are showing credits and not the game. Jerks. What's with all the nostalgia? ABC and ESPN are the same company. So lame.

We'll probably miss a TD cuz they're showing us the credits for the PAs at MNF or some nonsense...

BTW what's the deal with the fireman guy? Seriously.

At Mon Dec 26, 11:44:00 PM, Blogger Tom Masse said...

That's Fireman Ed that I mentioned in the original post. Just some nitwit that goes to all the Jets games like Barrelman that used to go to the Broncos games. Fireman Ed leads that stupid J-E-T-S Jets! Jets! Jets! chant. Really haven't heard that too much tonight, eh, Ed?

At Mon Dec 26, 11:50:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I can't believe how much play that Fireman guy still gets.

New York has nothing else to offer.

Neither Pats games finished with scores that indicate the real flow of the game.

Good game for the Pats. Hope Bruschi's ok.

I'll be the 12th Man next week at the Miami game. Not sure where the seats are but I will be there. The last time I was at a game was the Miami 'Snow Fireworks' game.

Have a good one :)

Nice. The Jets play the first and last games ever on ABC's Monday Night Football, and lose them both, 31-21. For reasons like that, I love New York.

That's for the input, everyone. Have a blast at the Miami game, mrbandw. Vrabel is the horsetrailer player of the game.
